A dental implant is an effective way to replace teeth that have been lost to decay or trauma. At Morgan Family Dental, our specialists can deliver results that are durable, functional, and fit with the rest of your teeth.

How Implants Work

Dental implants have three components: the titanium root, the abutment, and the crown.

The titanium root is implanted in the jaw, where the bone will begin to fuse to it through a process called osseointegration. This creates an extremely strong bond so you can chew on it and clean or maintain it just like you would your natural teeth.

Once the bone has healed around the titanium, we will place an abutment on it that will hold the crown in place.

The crown is custom made to fit over the root and match the color of the rest of your teeth. When the procedure is finished, your new implants will be able to imitate the function and appearance of your natural teeth.

Why Implants are Important

If you are missing any teeth, it’s important to get them replaced as soon as possible. Missing teeth can lead to infections, shifting teeth, bone deterioration, and other problems. These implants can help you preserve the structure of your mouth and protect your overall dental health.

Who Is a Candidate for Dental Implants?

If you are capable of receiving other dental procedures, you are probably a candidate for dental implants. The basic requirements are that the patient is in good health, have healthy gums, and enough jaw bone to hold the implant (though bone grafts are also possible).

There may be some circumstances that could get in the way of an implant, such as uncontrolled chronic conditions like diabetes or heart problems. Also, if you are currently being treated with radiation in the head or neck region, we’ll need to know about that.

We’ll cover these things with you when you come in for your appointment so you fully understand all of your options.
